We started noticing and hearing from VeggL’ers that Beyond Meat was disappearing from Pizza Hut menus around mid January 2021.
We’re not sure if we were so excited when Pizza Hut added Beyond Meat that they specified it was a ‘limited run’, but we don’t remember that being the case. We also haven’t heard yet if or when they will be bringing back Beyond Meat.

Pizza Hut Adds Beyond Sausage to their Menu
Today, November 11th, 2020, Pizza Hut is launching their partnership with Beyond Meat by offering Beyond Sausage on their pizzas. This is another huge step in the right direction for vegans and plant-based eaters.
This launch is also right on the heels of McDonald’s announcing that their new McPlant platform will be looking to add plant-based options to their global menus, meaning a vegan burger in the US could be on the horizon very soon.
Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown sounds confident that not only is this going to be a great option for customers already eating a vegan or vegetarian diet, but the taste could also provide a seamless alternative for anyone wanting to cut back on their meat consumption.
“We really wanted to build something that was unique in the market,” he said. “A lot of people can make a crumble out of protein these days, but this is something special because we took the time with Pizza Hut to get it right.”
To mimic the taste Beyond Meat and Pizza Hut used a blend of garlic, paprika, and fennel seeds with the plant based crumble.
Does Pizza Hut Have Vegan Cheese?
I am all for praising any restaurant for adding vegan options to their menu. Especially one that is as large and can have as big an impact as Pizza Hut.
But, let’s be real for a second. A pizza isn’t really pizza unless it has cheese on it. So, will you be able to order a ‘proper’ pizza from Pizza Hut now complete with vegan cheese like is available at pizza chains like Blaze and MOD?
It appears that this is still not the case.
So, while we’re getting closer to being able to make a complete order at Pizza Hut, for the time being you’ll still have to provide your own vegan cheese. This is exactly what we did when we ordered Pizza Hut on launch day. When our pizza arrived, we sprinkled a little Violife Mozzarella shreds on top, closed the box and let the heat and steam work it’s magic. After 3 minutes we opened the box and voila!, a real deal vegan pizza from Pizza Hut.
How to Order Vegan from Pizza Hut
Pizza Hut will be offering two specialty pizzas featuring the Beyond Sausage. The “Beyond Italian Sausage” pizza (a cheese pizza topped with Beyond Sausage) and the “Great Beyond” pizza (a veggie pizza topped with Beyond Sausage). However, since both of those pizzas come with cheese, we suggest to just “Create Your Own” using the Beyond Sausage.
Here’s how to do that –
To order vegan from Pizza Hut, start with selecting a dough. Thankfully Pizza Hut has multiple vegan friendly doughs to choose from:
- Thin ‘N Crispy Dough
- Hand-Tossed Style
- Pan Crust
- P’Zone Dough
Next, both the pizza sauce and buffalo pizza sauce are both vegan.
Finally, add Beyond Sausage if you’d like and then whatever veggies you want. Veggies at Pizza Hut include Diced Roma Tomatoes, Green Bell Peppers, Mushrooms, Red Onions, Mediterranean Black Olives, Roasted Spinach, Sliced Banana Peppers, Sliced Jalapeno Peppers
and Sweet Pineapple.

First Impression – Our No Cheese Great Beyond Review
We ordered the Pizza Hut Great Beyond with no cheese, then added our own Violife Mozzarella shreds on top once it was delivered to the house.
So… how was it?
Amazing. Seriously, I forgot how good Pizza Hut pizza is. The sauce is crazy good. There is so much flavor in the sauce. In fact, between the sauce and the Beyond Sausage (more on the Sausage in a second), there is enough flavor that you really don’t even need the cheese. I never thought I would ever say that, but it’s the truth.
I know this is an article focusing on the new Beyond Sausage, but the sauce at Pizza Hut stole the show for us.
Next, let’s talk about the Beyond Sausage. First off, our pizza was loaded down with Beyond Sausage. At 17.99, it’s not a cheap pizza by any means, but I definitely felt like I got my money’s worth. The flavor and texture of the sausage is absolutely spot on. It even has that slight hint of spice and heat that I was hoping for.
Finally, the crust is ridiculously good. Soft and chewy, but with that little bit of outer crunch. The crust, like everything else on this pizza is packed with flavor too.
Final Verdict: Will absolutely order again. Honestly, I’m already looking forward to ordering again.
Final Thoughts
Pizza Hut is just another in an ever growing list of big chain restaurants that are adding plant-based options to their menus. Yum Brands, the parent company of Pizza Hut as well as KFC and Taco Bell, have been testing out vegan options at their locations across the globe.
We only see this trend continuing to grow as long as the demand is there. As options continue to grow, eating a vegan diet will only continue to become more convenient and main stream. In our opinion at VeggL, this is definitely a trend going in the right direction.
