We have yet to see a vegan mention that they order any of Taco Bell’s Craving Boxes and until I saw their special limited-time $5 cravings box (early January 2024), we hadn’t questioned if this is an option. Yes, we have an entire vegan guide for Taco Bell
and it never dawned on me to see if their Cravings Box can be ordered vegan or plant-based.
While we do discuss if the limited-time $5 Cravings Box can be made vegan below, please remember it may or may not be available when you are reading this.
The Deluxe Cravings Box ($9.49) can be ordered online or at your local Taco Bell.
The “regular” Cravings Box costs $5.99 and is available on Taco Bell’s online ordering platform or app.
The Classic Combo, which can be found on Taco Bell’s Cravings Value Menu can be ordered directly at a Taco Bell–no need to order online or on their app.
Let’s see which cravings box can be ordered vegan/plant-based, has what you want and makes the most sense, cost-wise, for you!
How To Order Taco Bell’s Cravings Value Classic Combo?
Taco Bell offers a menu item called, the Classic Combo, on their Cravings Value Menu. This menu consists of items that Taco Bell deems their most “budget friendly.”
The Classic Combo comes with a Taco, Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, Cinnamon Twists and a large fountain drink.
One by one, let’s modify them to be vegan & plant-based.
Taco Options (choose one)
There are a few taco options to choose from for the Classic Combo, but the following two make the most sense to be modified.
- Crunchy or Soft Taco. SWAP the beef with either refried beans or black beans and ORDER Fresco Style. You will have a Crunchy or Soft Taco with beans, lettuce and tomato.
Beefy 5-Layer Burrito Modified
Ordering the Beefy 5-Layer Burrito is not going to be tricky, but may make you pause and ask if ordering this particular cravings menu item makes sense.
Here’s why… the Beefy 5-Layer Burrito comes with seasoned beef, refried beans, sour cream, cheese and nacho cheese sauce. When ordering it modified to be vegan/plant-based, there is no longer a sauce. You could ask for their red sauce to be added like the bean burrito has, but it will cost you more.
Taco Bell charges for each additional ingredient, including the red sauce sauce. Adding sauce packets will be your most cost-effective choice to keep it from being dry.
- Beefy 5-Layer Burrito. Either ORDER with NO beef or SWAP for black beans or more refried beans then ORDER Fresco Style. You will have a burrito with refried beans (+ black beans or more refried beans–optional) and tomato.
The last two items in Taco Bell’s Classic Combo are Cinnamon Twists and a large drink. The Cinnamon Twists are Taco Bell certified-vegan so we’re good there. Then choose your drink.
Is It Cost-Effective To Order Taco Bell’s Cravings Value Classic Combo?
Yes!! The Classic Combo at Taco Bell costs $5.00. No, this is not the $5 Cravings Box we mentioned above, and will go into detail below. The Classic Combo is on Taco Bell’s Cravings Value Menu on their regular menu.
If I were to create an order with all of the items in the Classic Combo, my total would come to $9.46. Let’s say I don’t get a drink. Most times when I order from Taco Bell, I do not get a drink. Even without the drink, the total is $6.87.
Is it worth it? Yes! 🙂
How To Order Taco Bell’s Cravings Box Vegan?
To reiterate, Taco Bell’s Cravings Box is only available through online ordering or on their app, for $5.99. Go to the menu called, Online Exclusives, to find it.
What does the Cravings Box consist of? The Cravings Box is a “build your own” kind of idea. You get one specialty item, one classic, a side and a drink.
Specialty Options (choose one)
There are 3 specialty options but only 2 make any sense to modify; the Crunchwap Supreme and the Chalupa Supreme. The other, we’re not going to modify is the Cheesy Gordita Crunch.
–> Both of these will have no sauce once the modifications are made. We suggest either asking for Red Sauce to be added (costs more) or get a couple of extra sauce packets.
- Crunchwap Supreme. SWAP the beef with either refried beans or black beans and ORDER Fresco Style. You will have a Crunchwrap with beans, lettuce and tomato.
- Chalupa Supreme. SWAP the beef with either refried beans or black beans and ORDER Fresco Style. You will have a Chalupa with beans, lettuce and tomato.
Classic Options (choose one)
- Crunchy or Soft Taco. SWAP the beef with either refried beans or black beans and ORDER Fresco Style. You will have a Crunchy or Soft Taco with beans, lettuce and tomato.
- Bean Burrito. ORDER Fresco Style. Your Bean Burrito will have beans, onion and red sauce. (our pick!)
- Spicy Potato Soft Taco. ORDER Fresco Style. The modified Spicy Potato Soft Taco will have Taco Bell’s potatoes, lettuce and tomato.
Side Options (choose one)
- Chips and Cheese. ORDER with NO cheese.
- Cinnamon Twists (yum!)
- Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes. ORDER Fresco Style. You will have potatoes with tomato.
Choose Your Drink
The last thing you’ll do is choose your drink and whether you want that medium or large.
Honestly, with all of the modifications, ordering the Cravings Box online or on the app makes it SO much easier.
Is It Cost-Effective To Order Taco Bell’s Online Exclusive Cravings Box?
Very much so. Let’s say I order the Chalupa Supreme, Bean Burrito, Cinnamon Twists and a Large Drink, my total if, I ordered these individually would be $10.16.
When this cravings box is only $5.99, that’s a great deal!
How To Order Taco Bell’s Deluxe Cravings Box Vegan?
At the time of writing this, Taco Bell is offering a Deluxe Cravings Box, which costs $9.49.
The Deluxe Cravings Box comes with a Chalupa, the Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, a Taco, regular size Seasoned Fries with Cheese and a Medium Drink.
Let’s go through your options and how to modify these to be vegan and plant-based.
Chalupa Option
With this cravings box, Taco Bell gives you 4 Chalupas to choose from. Only one makes the most sense to modify to be vegan:
- Black Bean Chalupa Supreme. Order Fresco Style … it will come with black beans, lettuce and tomato. Ask for sauce packets otherwise, it will be dry.
Beefy 5-Layer Burrito Modified
- Beefy 5-Layer Burrito. Either ORDER with NO beef or SWAP for black beans or more refried beans then ORDER Fresco Style. You will have a burrito with refried beans (+ black beans or more refried beans–optional) and tomato.
Taco Options
- Crunchy or Soft Taco. SWAP the beef with either refried beans or black beans and ORDER Fresco Style. You will have a Crunchy or Soft Taco with beans, lettuce and tomato.
Seasoned Fries
- Seasoned Fries. ORDER with either NO cheese or choose to SWAP for guacamole (costs extra).
Then choose your drink.
Is It Cost-Effective To Order Taco Bell’s Deluxe Cravings Box?
Again, Taco Bell’s Deluxe Cravings Box costs $9.49. If I were to order each of the vegan-friendly options individually, the total at my local Taco Bell would be $14.85.
I wouldn’t bat an eye at saving $5. Another great deal!

A resounding yes!! My goodness… this is the best deal yet.
At my local Taco Bell (in Georgia), the $5 Cravings Box would cost $13.85 if each menu item was ordered individually.
To Sum It Up
I wish I had done my research on Taco Bell’s Cravings specials from when they began offering them. Such a great, cost-effective way to eat at Taco Bell.
Yes, you do have to make many modifications but if you’ve been going to Taco Bell for some time, you are aware that the only menu items that do not need to be modified, if you are vegan, are the black beans, black beans & rice, and the cinnamon twists.
