Did you know that Del Taco offers breakfast? At select locations, now you know they do. But can you order a vegan breakfast at Del Taco?
This is what we are going to discuss here–what their breakfast menu items are, if they are vegan as-is and if you can modify any.
What Items Are On Del Taco’s Breakfast Menu?
Del Taco offers quite a few breakfast menu options: tacos, a toasted wrap, burritos, a breakfast roller, hashbrowns, orange juice, a couple of coffee options and donut bites.
Let’s see if any are vegan or can be made vegan by modifying them…
Are Del Taco’s Hashbrown Sticks Vegan?
We are starting our questions off with positivity. Yes! Del Taco’s Hashbrown Sticks are vegan as-is!! According to the ingredient list, they contain:
Hashbrown Sticks: Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (Contains One Or More Of The Following: Canola Oil, Soybean Oil, Cotton Seed Oil, Sunflower Oil, Corn Oil), Contains 2% Or Less Of: Dextrose, Natural Flavor, Salt, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate (Added To Maintain Natural Color)
They are noted as vegan on Del Taco’s allergen list as well.
You can order these on their own; however, Del Taco uses them in a couple of their other breakfast items.
Are Del Taco’s Double Cheese Breakfast Tacos Vegan-Friendly?
Del Taco offers 3 breakfast tacos; egg & cheese, bacon & hashbrown and a beef & hashbrown. Not one of these is vegan as-is, as I’m sure you already assumed. But can any of them be made vegan or would it even make sense to do all of the modifying?
Honestly, we do not suggest attempting to modify any of Del Taco’s breakfast tacos. If you were to remove all of the animal based ingredients, all you would be left with is the hashbrown sticks and a tortilla.
Are Del Taco’s Breakfast Toasted Wraps Vegan-Friendly?
Del Taco has 3 versions of their breakfast toasted wraps; egg & cheese, bacon and carne asada steak. None of these are vegan as-is. You could modify one of these, the egg & cheese breakfast toasted wrap.
How to order the egg & cheese breakfast toasted wrap vegan at Del Taco…
- Order an egg & cheese breakfast toasted wrap with NO egg or cheese. You will have a toasted wrap with hashbrown sticks and 2 salsas.
Are Del Taco’s Breakfast Burritos Vegan-Friendly?
Again, Del Taco has 3 versions of their breakfast burritos; egg & cheese, carne asada steak and bacon. It would not make any sense to modify any of these to be vegan.
Are Del Taco’s Breakfast Rollers Vegan?
No. Del Taco’s has 2 options for their breakfast rollers. All they are is a simplified and smaller version of their breakfast burritos. We do not see any point in attempting to modify the burritos, same goes for the breakfast rollers.
Are Del Taco’s Donut Bites Vegan?
Del Tacos’ Donut Bites unfortunately contain eggs and a couple of forms of dairy–making them NOT vegan. Their ingredients are:
Donut Bites: Enriched Unbleached Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour, Malted Barley Flour, Niacin, Iron as Ferrous Sulfate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Enzyme, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), Palm Oil, Whey (A Milk Derivative), Dextrose, Skim Milk, Yeast, Contains less than 2% of the following: Soybean Oil, Salt, Defatted Soy Flour, Leavening Gum, to preserve freshness (Calcium Proprionate), Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum, Colored with (Beta Carotene), Egg Whites
Is Del Taco’s Hot Cafe Del Olla Coffee Vegan?
Yes! Del Taco’s Hot Cafe Del Olla is vegan as-is and is noted on their allergen guide as being vegan as well. The Del Olla Coffee is interesting. It is described as, “100% single origin sustainable Arabica beans, this medium roast combines the hints of brown sugar and cinnamon to create a unique experience and is brewed throughout the day for a fresh and smooth taste in every cup.” And contains the following ingredients:
Café Del Olla Coffee: Arabica Coffee with natural and artificial flavors
Cinnamon Spread: Sugar, Margarine (Palm Oil, Water, Salt, Mono and Diglycerides and Soy Lecithin (Emulsifiers), Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Artificial Flavor, Beta Carotene (Color), Vitamin A Palamite), Corn Syrup, Water, Spice. Contains less than 2% of: Natural and Artificial Flavor, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Salt.
Be aware that this is Del Taco’s hot coffee, NOT iced coffee.
–> The Cafe Del Olla Iced Coffee is NOT vegan, as it contains dairy.
Wrapping It Up…
Del Taco is definitely not aiming any of their breakfast items at vegans and plant-based folks. We are thankful that the hashbrown sticks are vegan as-is but where is the rest of the meal?
Let us know in the comments if you tried the veganized version of the toasted wrap. We are curious if the hashbrown sticks and salsa are good in this one item that we modified.
