Vegan Options in Yellow Springs, Ohio (Updated 2023)

Vegan Options at Yellow Springs Ohio

Having grown up fairly close to Yellow Springs, I have quite a fondness for this little village, and in recent years have family that moved even closer to it. So every time we visit, I wind up Google searching,”vegan options in Yellow Springs,” to see what is available in case we go into town.

Each time, I seem to get varying answers and still have questions about certain restaurants that appear to possibly have something vegan. This last visit, I finally decided to create a guide… mostly for myself but hopefully you’re able to get some use out of it too.

The guide is a list of each restaurant that offers vegan options and if available, gives you a couple of their menu items. I do still have some questions, as I note below, but will update them if/when I learn more.

And if you happen to have more information or notice any changes/updates that need to be made, please let us know!

Vegan Options in Yellow Springs, Ohio

The following restaurants are in alphabetical order.

Aahar India

101 S Walnut St, Yellow Springs, OH 45387Opens in a new tab.

Aahar India is a highly recommended authentic Indian food truck/cart that sits in the parking lot to the right of The Corner Cone. This is NOT a 100% vegan location so be aware of that when ordering but there are plenty of options that are or can be made vegan.

Calypso Grill

1535 Xenia Ave, Yellow Springs, OH 45387Opens in a new tab.

On 68 but just outside of Yellow Springs (on your way towards Xenia), sits a Caribbean restaurant called, Calypso Grill. They have so many vegan options.

Either of the dishes that have the slow-cooked black beans and coconut rice is my favorite. Their Yuca fries are really good as well. You will find other vegan-friendly appetizers, soups, and salads along with jackfruit-based entrees here.

Ellie’s Restaurant

321 Xenia Ave, Yellow Springs, OH 45387Opens in a new tab.

Ellie’s sits inside of the Mills Park Hotel. What they do share on their menu is a notation with vegan options. What they don’t have are vegan options. The only vegan option notated is fresh fruit.

Emporium Wines & Underdog Cafe

233 Xenia Ave, Yellow Springs, OH 45387Opens in a new tab.

Food menu hours are more for breakfast/early lunch so take a look at those before visiting. But they offer coffee with non-dairy milk during regular business hours.

Vegans have a variety of options at Underdog Cafe–a Vegan Scramble, Vegan Breakfast Burrito, Vegan Granola with your choice of non-dairy milk, Vegan Mushroom Gravy & Biscuits, a seasonal soup and Vegan Hummus Wrap.

Also, check their baked goods… you might find a couple that are vegan.

Mazu

If you are looking for a 100% vegan restaurant in Yellow Springs, Mazu is for you but please be aware their hours are very limited. Check them before planning to visit. You will find an array of vegan dishes inspired by Taiwanese, Israeli and Indian cuisines.

Mazu is the restaurant we went to the most recent time I was visiting family. The Yansu Mushrooms were our favorite… so much so that my sister ordered another plate of them. 🙂

We did try a few other dishes–I enjoyed the Scallion Pancakes–but we both said we look forward to our next visit to try the falafel dishes.

Miguel’s Poke Island

134 Dayton St, Yellow Springs, OH 45387Opens in a new tab.

Miguel’s Poke Island offers one specific vegan option, a Vegan Poke Bowl. It comes with marinated tofu, edamame, cucumber, tomato, red onion, kale salad mix, quinoa and green goddess dressing.

Unfortunately, the rest of their menu does not state which items are vegan. We have reached out to Miguel’s Poke Island but have not heard back yet. We suggest asking for more information if you prefer to Build Your Own Bowl or opt for a Smoothie, Boba Tea or Acai Bowl.

I have contacted them thru their contact page for more details and will update if/when I hear back.

Miguel’s Tacos

101 Corry St, Yellow Springs, OH 45387Opens in a new tab.

Miguel’s Tacos has been a confusing one for us to figure out. It is my sister’s favorite restaurant in Yellow Springs so every time I visit it is a topic of conversation as to whether they have vegan options.

Their menu online does not share any vegan information yet there is one Google review that states they have some. The problem is, when calling I was met with a lot of confusion. The person I spoke with went on a long mumble of not knowing and then asked if I wanted him to ask someone else. I said yes, please. The other person did not know either… Needless to say, we have yet to visit Miguel’s.

I have reached out to them thru email and will update if/when I learn more.

Peach’s Grill

104 Xenia Ave, Yellow Springs, OH 45387Opens in a new tab.

According to the Peach’s Grill menu, they offer one vegan option… their Vegan Sweet Potato Burger.

We have reached out to Peach’s Grill with additional questions regarding what’s on the burger and if the sides are vegan. Until we learn more, we suggest asking when visiting.

Sunrise Cafe

259 Xenia Ave, Yellow Springs, OH 45387Opens in a new tab.

Sunrise Cafe was the first restaurant I was able to find vegan options at in Yellow Springs back when I became vegan in 2012. For that, I will always be thankful for them.

After looking at their current online menu, they do not seem to have as many as I remember so we suggest asking when visiting.

What you will find is their Vegan Fill Up meal which includes two of their housemade veggie patties, sautéed spinach, mushrooms and garlic, sunrise potatoes and choice of toast.

The Corner Cone

101 S Walnut St, Yellow Springs, OH 45387Opens in a new tab.

When we visited (in June 2023), The Corner Cone offered a Vegan Vanilla Soft Serve and Pineapple Dole Whip. I was told the cone is vegan and the board showed a non-dairy whipped cream was available. Other toppings you could ask if they have available are Bananas, Nuts, OREO’s and Sour Patch Kids.

We suggest asking what vegan options they have available when you visit.

Ye Olde Trail Tavern

228 Xenia Ave, Yellow Springs, OH 45387Opens in a new tab.

The Ye Olde Trail Tavern has a few vegan options on the menu. You will find falafel dishes, vegan sausage/brat meals, black bean soup, and salad topped with their spicy vegan peanut/cilantro dressing. Looking for the vegan notation when visiting.

Restaurant(s) we still need to confirm vegan options:

HaHa Pizza

In November 2022, HaHa Pizza introduced a vegan option, a Meatless Italian Sausage Sub. This sub contains plant-based sausage, HaHa sauce and vegan provolone cheese. I have it on this list because we have not confirmed if it is still available or even if the potato chips it comes with are vegan.

HaHa Pizza was contacted with questions on 6.17.23. We will update this info once we hear back.

Changes Need To Be Made?

Again, please let us know if you notice a change needs to be made to this guide!

Maybe a new restaurant needs added, information changes need to be made to an existing one, or vegan options have been removed from a restaurant and we need to take them off the guide.

We appreciate the help you can give us… as will any vegan who lives in Yellow Springs or is traveling thru. 🙂

VeggL (Jen and Ryan)

VeggL is the passion project of Jen & Ryan. Both vegan (Jen since 2012, Ryan since 2018), they wanted to help other vegans & plant based folks through an incredibly frustrating process--trying to figure out what you can eat & where in the US. Pictured w/ our pups, Mia & Chompers.
