Heading to IHOP hoping to find vegan options? While IHOP is not going to have a plethora of vegan items, at least what you do have should make it simple to decide what to order.

So whether you’re meeting friends, traveling or it’s your only nearby option, you can still make it work. Our vegan guide keeps it straight forward with what your vegan options are.


Vegan Options at IHOP


Breakfast

  • Avocado Toast (seasonal availability). Order with NO eggs and NO butter on the toast … comes with grilled multigrain bread topped with freshly sliced avocado & roasted cherry tomatoes. Served with fresh fruit or hash browns.

Build Your Own Hash Browns or Crispy Breakfast Potatoes

Technically, there is not a menu item for this but there should be!

Order either the Hash Browns or Crispy Breakfast Potatoes and add any of the following toppings:

  • Roasted Cherry Tomatoes
  • Sauteed Green Peppers & Onions
  • Sauteed Mushrooms
  • Sauteed Spinach
  • Tomato
  • Salsa
  • Avocado

A butter alternative that does NOT contain dairy is used for sautéing. It does contain soy.

Sides

  • Crispy Breakfast Potatoes.
  • Hash Browns
  • Multi-Grain Toast. Order with NO butter.
  • French Fries
  • Steamed Fresh Broccoli. Order with NO butter.
  • Sautéed Spinach
  • Side Salad. Order with NO cheese. There is NO vegan-friendly dressing currently at IHOP.
  • Fresh Fruit

Per IHOP:

IHOP defines vegan as a menu item that does not contain beef, poultry, pork, seafood, dairy, eggs, and honey. dairy, eggs, and honey. In addition, IHOP’s vegan menu items do not contain animal sourced gelatin, flavors, colors, or enzymes. Because we have multiple sources of animal products in our shared cooking and prep areas, including common fryer oil, we are unable to guarantee that any menu item be completely free of animal products.

Are IHOP pancakes vegan?

The pancakes at IHOP are not vegan. They contain both milk and eggs. Furthermore, the French toast and the crepes at IHOP also contain milk and eggs.

Does IHOP Have Vegan Waffles?

No. Their Belgian Waffles and Gluten Free Waffles contain egg and dairy.

Is The Plant-Based Sausage at IHOP Vegan?

They were… with typical chain restaurant cross contamination. As of a guide update we made in mid 2025, any signs of plant-based sausage had been removed from IHOP’s menu.

When they introduced plant based meat, IHOP started with an unknown brand then switched to Impossible Sausage in 2023. They made a big push with the Impossible by offering the Impossible Sausage Power Combo. You had to order it with NO egg whites and NO butter on the toast but you could get a meal with 2 sausage patties, fresh fruit and toast.

Does IHOP have vegan burgers?

As of mid 2025, IHOP’s Impossible Burger is no longer on the menu. It had been introduced in September of 2023 when the Impossible Sausage was brought to the breakfast menu.

Is IHOP’s IHOP Sauce Vegan?

No. IHOP’s IHOP sauce contains egg according to their allergen guide:

IHOP Sauce: Soybean Oil, White Distilled Vinegar, Corn Syrup, Water, Egg Yolks, Contains Less Than 2% Of Salt, Whole Eggs, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Egg Yolk Solids, Calcium Disodium EDTA (Added To Protect Flavor), Natural Flavors (Contains Mustard), Tomato Concentrate Made From Red Ripe Tomatoes, Distilled Vinegar, Cane Sugar, Salt, Onion Powder, Spice, Natural Flavoring, Distilled White Vinegar, Mustard Seed, Mustard Bran, Water, Salt, Turmeric, Natural Flavors and Spices
