Lenny & Larry Complete Cookie-fied Bar Review

Lenny Larry Complete Cookie-fiedBars

I’m always on the lookout for new plant-based protein bars and powders, so when I saw the Lenny & Larry Complete Cookie-fied Bars, I had to give them a try.

They come in three different flavors – Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Almond Sea Salt and Cookies & Creme. All three are vegan and come with 12 grams of plant-based protein.

I had Jen try them out as well so you’ll see her thoughts included here as well.

Cookie-fied Bars Reviews

Vegan Cookie Bar

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip

Tastes like what I think peanut butter cookie dough would taste like. The first thing you notice is the taste of the peanut butter, but the chocolate also comes through nicely as well.

It’s soft and almost dissolves in your mouth as you’re chewing it. Then, there are the little bits of crunch from the pieces of cookie added in that give the bar some texture. It’s really a perfect combination.

Jen’s thoughts… First I want to mention the PB Chocolate Chip bar is very crumbly, so be prepared for it to fall apart a bit when taken out of the wrapper.

Now, it has been a really long time (over 10 years) since I’ve had a Snickers bar but the initial bite reminds of one a bit. This bar has a nice balance of peanut butter with the chocolate and the texture is great with the cookie bits added in as Ryan mentioned.

Chocolate Almond Sea Salt

The Chocolate Almond Sea Salt bar has a brownie-like consistency. The taste on this one is very mellow. It has a very subtle chocolate flavor and just a very slight hint of sea salt.

I know that sounds like a negative, but it’s actually not. It doesn’t have the ‘protein bar flavor’ that you get with many protein bars and drinks. If you want a bar that tastes good without hitting you over the head with flavoring – this is your bar.

Jen’s thoughts… I agree with Ryan in that the Chocolate Almond Sea Salt bar has a brownie-like consistency. I am not much of a chocolate person, especially dark chocolate, so I was a little hesitant to try this one because that is the appearance it gives.

The chocolate is not overly pronounced. In fact, this is the most subtle bar, in taste, of any of the three. There are little cookie bits but really I do not even notice those as much as I do the bits of almond.

Lenny & Larry’s Complete Cookie-fied Bar; Cookies & Creme

Cookies & Creme

The Cookies & Cream bar is very similar to the Chocolate Almond Sea Salt. Both bars seem to be using the same chocolate base (which tastes pretty similar to the Double Chocolate Cookie).

So, the chocolate flavor and the brownie-like consistency are pretty much the same on both bars.

The difference with the Cookies & Cream bar is the cream flavor is more pronounced compared to the sea salt flavor. The chocolate and cream flavors work very well together.

Jen’s thoughts… Both the Cookies & Creme and Chocolate Almond Sea Salt bars are thick but this one is the thickest/chewiest so be prepared to have a drink ready. The initial taste, especially if you get some of the creme in that bite is so good! It is FULL of cookies & creme flavor; Oreo-like.

The back end is what threw me off a little. There is a slight gritty texture. Nothing that would stop me from eating one if I was really looking for a yummy protein bar but may be something you notice as well.

Value

The Kroger where I picked these up had them marked at $1.69 each which is pretty on par with how much you can buy them on AmazonOpens in a new tab..

They are on the smaller size for a bar and contain 160 – 180 calories (depending on the flavor) and 12 grams of protein.

So, from a value standpoint, I feel like they are a pretty good price for what you get. They’re not a full meal-replacement type bar that are sometimes in the 350-400 calorie range (and also double the price), they’re designed to be a smaller snack bar and I think they work perfectly for that.

I actually caught them at Kroger on a 10 for $10 sale and at that price, I think they’re an absolute no-brainer. (My only regret was not stocking up more on them)

Which Lenny & Larry Bar Was My Favorite?

It’s honestly hard for me to say because they’re all good and they’re all very different in both taste and texture.

I think this is a situation where I may pick up a few of each when I get them from the store (and I definitely will be buying these again). I would recommend trying them all out and seeing which one you like the best.

I really don’t think you can go wrong with any of them.

Final Thoughts

There has been an explosion of plant-based protein bars and plant-based protein powders on the market in the past few years. And even though Lenny & Larry’s doesn’t exclusively make vegan products, they do make some of the best I’ve tried.

In fact, I’ve actually ranked their Complete Cookies from best to worst if you’d like to check that out as well.
