MOD Pizza has brought back the Strawberry Summer Salad onto its menu this summer. Considering it’s a salad topped with strawberries, it looks to be a promising vegan-friendly menu item. But, is it?
Is the Strawberry Summer Salad at MOD Pizza vegan?
Not exactly. As is straight off the menu the Strawberry Summer Salad is not vegan because it comes with gorgonzola cheese by default. However, because it’s MOD Pizza and pretty much everything can be custom ordered, it’s not hard to make a quick modification to make this salad vegan.
Simply ask for the gorgonzola to be left off the salad and you’re good to go! You can even replace the gorgonzola with MOD’s dairy-free cheese if you like (as I did in our pictures).
For a complete breakdown of all the ingredients in the salad and a few suggestions for what else is vegan-friendly at MOD Pizza, keep reading.
Strawberry Summer Salad Ingredients
- Romaine
- Mixed Greens
- Sherry Dijon Vinaigrette
- Pickled Red Onions
- Cucumbers
- Gorgonzola –> NOT vegan
- Strawberries
- Balsamic-Fig Glaze
As I mentioned already, the gorgonzola cheese is the other issue that you’ll need to make a modification for (like subbing in dairy-free cheese).
The Sherry Dijon Vinaigrette and the Balsamic-Fig Glaze are both vegan according to MOD’s Allergen Information page.
Other than that, it’s made up of different veggies and those amazing strawberries!
What Else is Vegan at MOD Pizza?
MOD Pizza is one of the most vegan-friendly pizza chains in the US, for three reasons.
First, it’s the ordering style. You get to customize your order starting with the crust, sauce and toppings. You get to individually select every single item that makes its way onto your pizza.
Second, it’s because of the ingredients that MOD offers. MOD offers two different types of crust, tons of veggies and multiple sauces to choose from. Even more exciting for most vegans is the fact that they also offer dairy-free cheese and a plant-based Italian sausage!
Finally, the price. Unlike some pizza chains where piling up veggies on a pizza may cost you a fortune, MOD charges a flat price for any pizza you make. Want dairy-free cheese and a mountain of veggies on your pizza? Go for it! That’s how Jen orders hers.
So, if you’re not in the mood for a salad, we suggest creating your own vegan pizza.
Start with either the original or gluten-free crust (gluten-free crust does cost a bit extra). Choose a sauce like the Red Sauce or BBQ Sauce. Pile it with toppings of your choice including dairy-free cheese, plant-based Italian sausage and any of the over a dozen veggie options.
Finally, finish it off with one of MOD’s vegan-friendly ‘finishing sauces’ like the Balsamic Fig Glaze or Hot Buffalo Sauce.

Final Thoughts
Admittedly, I’m not a huge salad person, but I’m a sucker for strawberry salads. If you’re like me then I highly suggest giving this Strawberry Summer Salad from MOD Pizza a try. Just remember to have them leave off the gorgonzola cheese!
