Burger King announced that on June 27th, 2022 they are launching two new Impossible Burgers to their menu – the Impossible Southwest Bacon Whopper and the Impossible King.
So, immediately, I wondered what most vegans were probably wondering, “Are these new Burger King Impossible Whoppers vegan?”
This answer, of course, is kind of. Let me explain.
Burger King’s Impossible Whopper
We’ve gone in-depth here at VeggL regarding what our viewpoint is on whether or not the original Impossible Whopper is vegan. To sum it up, we believe that since no animals are being harmed then we consider it vegan. If you have an issue with the cross-contamination (it shares a grill with meat products) then we totally understand that as well. We give you the information, you choose your level of comfort.
You also have the option to ask them to not cook the Impossible Burger on the grill. I believe they microwave it.
Now that that is out of the way, let’s focus on the new Impossible King.
The Impossible Southwest Bacon Whopper – Is it Vegan?
The Impossible Southwest Bacon Whopper will consist of an Impossible plant-based patty, topped with American cheese, bacon, an avocado spread, seasoned tortilla strips and a spicy sauce on a toasted sesame seed bun.
This means you’ll need to make multiple modifications to make this burger vegan-friendly. Make sure you order this Southwest Impossible Whopper with NO cheese, bacon or spicy sauce.
Of course, the same cross-contamination concerns that have been present with the original Impossible Whoppers will also still be there. You can ask for them to cook your Impossible burger in the microwave.
Impossible Southwest Bacon Whopper vs Impossible Whopper
So, how does this new Impossible Southwest Bacon Whopper (man, that is a mouthful to say (and type)) compare to the original Burger King Impossible Whopper?
This new Whopper has everything the original had (lettuce, tomato, sliced onion) except for mayo and pickles. But includes an avocado spread and seasoned tortilla strips. Again, order yours with NO bacon, cheese or spicy sauce.
And, depending on how the price shakes out on this new burger, we can get on board for that.
The Impossible King
The other new Impossible Burger being added to the menu is the Impossible King. The Impossible King is even more similar to the OG Impossible Whopper. The King comes with cheese and mustard in place of mayo.
That means for this burger, all you’ll need to do is order it with no cheese and you’re good to go.
Which New Impossible Burger is Better?
This is a question that I personally can’t wait to attempt to answer, but at the time of this writing, we’re still a few days out from Burger King’s new Impossible Burgers hitting the menu. Rest assured that I’ll be updating this page on June 27th, once I get a chance to try out both of these new options.
